ScentCast ("we," "our," or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy.
This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard
your information when you use our mobile application.
Information We Collect
1. Account Information
When you create an account, we collect:

- Password (encrypted)
- Age range (optional)
- Fragrance preferences
2. Fragrance Collection Data
We store information about fragrances you add to your collection:
- Fragrance names and brands
- Scent notes
- Photos you upload
- Gender classifications
- Personal notes
3. Usage Data
We collect data about how you use the app:
- Daily recommendation requests
- Camera identification usage
- Filter preferences
- Search queries
- Feature usage patterns
4. Location Data
If you enable location services:
- We access your approximate location to provide weather-based recommendations
- Location data is used in real-time and not permanently stored
- You can manually enter a city instead of using location services

In-App Purchases
Premium Purchase
ScentCast offers an optional in-app purchase:
- Premium - $4.99 one-time purchase
When you make a purchase:
- We store your purchase status to provide access to premium features across all your devices
- Apple processes all payments - we never see your credit card information
- Your purchase is linked to your Apple ID and syncs via iCloud
- You can restore purchases on new devices using the same Apple ID
- Purchases are non-refundable per Apple's standard policy
Legacy Users:
Users who installed ScentCast before May 11, 2026 receive lifetime premium access
at no cost as a thank you for early adoption. We store your first install date
locally on your device to determine legacy status.

- Unlimited fragrance collection size
- Unlimited camera identifications
- AI Discovery Mode
- Advanced filters (mood and occasion)
- All layering pairing suggestions
How We Use Your Information
Primary Uses
- Personalization: Provide daily fragrance recommendations based on weather, your collection, and preferences
- AI Features: Generate recommendations using OpenAI's GPT models
- Account Management: Create and maintain your account
- Email Notifications: Send daily fragrance suggestions (if enabled)
- Push Notifications: Deliver timely recommendations (if enabled)
- Feature Access: Manage premium feature availability based on purchase status
AI and Machine Learning
We use OpenAI's API to power our recommendation engine. When generating recommendations:
- Your fragrance collection and preferences are sent to OpenAI's servers
- Weather data and filter selections are included in AI prompts
- OpenAI processes this data according to their privacy policy
- We do not train custom AI models on your personal data
- Camera identification uses GPT-4 Vision to analyze fragrance bottle photos
Data Storage and Security
Where Your Data is Stored
- Supabase (PostgreSQL): Account data, fragrance collection, preferences
- Supabase Storage: Fragrance photos you upload
- Apple iCloud: Purchase status (synced across your devices)
- Local Device: Daily usage counts, cached data, first install date
Security Measures
- All data transmitted between the app and servers uses HTTPS encryption
- Passwords are encrypted using industry-standard hashing
- Database access is protected by Row Level Security (RLS) policies
- Only you can access your fragrance collection and preferences
- Payment processing is handled entirely by Apple - we never see payment details

Email and Push Notifications
Daily Email Preferences
If you enable daily email recommendations:
- We send one email per day with a fragrance suggestion
- Emails are based on tomorrow's weather forecast for your location
- Your email preferences are stored securely
- You can modify or disable emails anytime in Settings
Push Notifications
If you enable push notifications:
- We send daily fragrance recommendations at your preferred time
- Notifications include rich content (fragrance name, brand, reason)
- You can disable notifications in iOS Settings or within the app
- We do not send promotional or marketing push notifications
Your Rights and Choices
Account Control
- Access: View all your data in the app's Collection and Settings
- Edit: Modify your preferences, collection, and account details anytime
- Delete: Remove individual fragrances or your entire collection
- Export: Request a copy of your data by contacting us
Account Deletion
To permanently delete your account and all associated data:
- Open ScentCast and go to Settings
- Sign in to your account
- Scroll to the bottom and tap "Delete Account"
- Confirm deletion
Note: Account deletion is permanent and cannot be undone.
All your data will be permanently erased from our servers within 30 days.
If you purchased Premium, you will lose access and cannot receive a refund.
Marketing Communications
- We do not send marketing emails unless you explicitly opt-in
- Daily fragrance emails are not promotional - they're personalized recommendations
- You can unsubscribe from any emails using the link at the bottom of each message
Location Services
- You can enable/disable location access in iOS Settings → ScentCast → Location
- If disabled, you can manually enter a city for weather-based recommendations
Children's Privacy
ScentCast is not intended for children under 13 years of age. We do not
knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you are
a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us with personal
information, please contact us immediately.
Data Retention
We retain your data as follows:
- Account Data: Until you delete your account
- Fragrance Collection: Until you delete items or your account
- Usage Data: Aggregated and anonymized after 90 days
- Daily Limits: Reset automatically at midnight each day
- Purchase Records: Retained indefinitely to honor lifetime premium access
- Email Logs: 30 days
- Deleted Accounts: All data permanently erased within 30 days
International Users
ScentCast is operated from the United States. If you are located outside
the United States, your information will be transferred to, stored, and
processed in the United States and other countries where our service
providers operate.
European Users (GDPR)
If you are in the European Economic Area (EEA), you have additional rights:
- Right to access your personal data
- Right to correct inaccurate data
- Right to delete your data ("right to be forgotten")
- Right to restrict or object to processing
- Right to data portability
- Right to withdraw consent

If you are a California resident, you have the right to:

We do not sell your personal information. We do earn commissions
through affiliate links, but we do not share your personal data with affiliate partners.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of
any significant changes by:
- Updating the "Last Updated" date at the top of this policy
- Displaying a notice in the app
- Sending an email (if you've provided one)
Your continued use of ScentCast after changes are posted constitutes
acceptance of the updated policy.
Refund Policy
All purchases are processed through Apple's App Store. Refunds are subject
to Apple's standard refund policy.
To Request a Refund:
- Go to reportaproblem.apple.com
- Sign in with your Apple ID
- Find your ScentCast Premium purchase
- Click "Report a Problem"
- Select "Request a refund"
Note: We do not have direct access to refund requests.
All refunds are handled by Apple. Approved refunds will result in loss
of premium access.
